Jeff’s more than 50-year involvement in equestrian sports spans a broad
range of disciplines and competencies, from competitor and
trainer/instructor/clinician to breeder, judge, and author. This varied
background has provided a widely-rounded exposure to equestrian
disciplines and systems.
Competitor:
- Has trained and shown 7 horses to Grand Prix
- Holds Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medals from the US Dressage Federation
- Long listed for the Olympics by the US Equestrian Team on King’s Praise, Zhivago, and Rubinstein

- With Elizabeth Searle, he conceived the USDF Learner Judge (L Education Program) and wrote the
teaching guidelines
- Author of the “USDF Judge’s Handbook,” the “USDF Judges’ Checklist,” “USDF Glossary of Judging
Terms” (adapted by the FEI), and several treatises on applying equestrian disciplines for Physical Therapy
and Occupational Therapy, as well as contributions to veterinary publications.
As a developing rider, he was influenced and trained by international experts, including Col. Waldemar Seunig,
Col. Alois Podhajsky, Col. Nybleaus, Count Herman Wrangel, Commandant G. van der Meersch, Maj. Anders
Lindgren, and the Baron Hans von Blixen-Finecke.
Elizabeth Searle
Osierlea co-owner, Elizabeth Searle has played a major role in the worlds
of dressage and vaulting in the United States. She was instrumental in the
introduction of vaulting to the United States, co-founding the American
Vaulting Association in 1968. She also co-founded the Dutch Warmblood
Registry in N. America. She has served as an officer for the AVA, the
United States Dressage Federation, United States Equestrian Federation,
and the United States Pony Club.
“Liz” is European trained—Commandant G. Ganshoff van der Meersch (Belgium), Lt. Col Hans Moeller
(Austria), Count Hermann Wrangel (Sweden). She competed in Hunters, Jumpers, 3-day event, and Dressage
(National Champion).
Liz’s judging credentials include:
- FEI International Dressage Judge (Ret)
- AHSA dressage Senior Judge (Ret)
- USEF Sporthorse Breeding Judge (Ret)
- FEI Vaulting Judge (Ret)
Liz was a recipient of the 2003 USA Equestrian Pegasus Medal of Honor. The Pegasus Medal of Honor was
created as an annual award to recognize individuals who have exhibited outstanding service to horses and the
sport.
She also received the prestigious US Dressage Federation Lifetime Achievement Award.
She is the author of “Vaulting – Gymnastics on Horseback”.
Laurel Bruun - Staff/Trainer ~ mcbruun@msn.com
Laurel has been a trainer and the farm manager at Osierlea for 25 years. She rides
and trains 6 or more horses a day at all levels, through Grand Prix. She has trained
and shown several horses to FEI levels.
Besides dressage, Laurel is a specialist in Quadrille riding, longeing, long reining,
and rider biomechanics. Laurel is also a successful breeder of Dutch Warmblood horses.
Laurel is a USEF Dressage Judge. Additionally, she and her husband, Mike, are professional dance instructors.
Yorick Wijting (PT, DPT) - Consultant ~ ywijting@gmail.com
Dr. Wijting is a Doctor of Physical Therapy. His expertise is invaluable in dealing with rider biomechanics and
the development of the Osierlea Rider Biomechanics specialty program. He rides himself, and his wife is a
dressage competitor based at Osierlea. He teaches physical therapists internationally and develops cutting-
edge PT techniques and equipment. He and Jeff do Horse-and-Rider Biomechanics seminars together. He is
available to consult with Osierlea staff and students by appointment

Stacee, who lives in Reno, Nevada, is a former Osierlea working
student and a USDF Silver Medalist. As a Jr/Young Rider, she
showed Osierlea’s Dutch stallion Vosmaer successfully through
Intermediare I level.
She currently competes through 4th level on client’s horses, including
Osierlea’s Dutch Warmblood gelding Brazil.

Deborah Harrison, DVM - Support ~ deborahpharrison@gmail.com
Dr. Deborah Harrison, from San Juan Bautista, CA, is a graduate of Colorado State University School of
Veterinary Medicine. She is an equine veterinarian in private practice, with a special interest in equine
reproduction.
Dr. Harrison has been an active breeder of Dutch Warmblood ~ www.liolomasdutchwarmbloods.com
horses since 1982. She imported horses from Europe and ran her own Quarantine Station for years in the 1980’
s. Now she operates a successful Warmblood breeding program with a classic Dutch mare base, using fresh
semen from North America, as well as frozen semen from Holland.
She has bred multiple FEI champions, including internationally ranked Grand Prix dressage and jumping horses
such as Jagger and Pako (ranking by the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses.) She bred, owns, and
stands at stud the KWPN Approved Dutch stallion, Ijsselmeer, who was CDS and/or USDF Region 7 Grand Prix
or Grand Prix Freestyle Champion for 4 consecutive years. She also bred, owns, and stands at stud the Grand
Prix dressage Dutch stallion, Lauwersmeer.
Dr. Harrison is a USEF Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Judge, and a USEF and AVA “R” Vaulting judge.
Dr. Harrison is also a current member of the KWPN Keuring Jury in North America, a position she has held for
14 years. She is also the KWPN–NA Consulting Veterinarian. She was a member of the KWPN-NA Board of
Directors for 20 yrs.
Dr. Harrison is a former successful competitor in dressage, hunter/jumper, and combined training.
